Motherhood

Motherhood is near to Divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels."

(“Message of the First Presidency,” Deseret News Weekly Church Edition, October 1942, p. 5.)

I have always known that I wanted to be a mother.  I knew very early on that being a wife and a mother would be my calling in life.  What I didn't know was how supremely challenging it would be.

Being a mom is hard.  And sometimes it's extremely lonely.  Most of the time you feel unappreciated and unrecognized despite the fact that you are supposed to be doing the most important work.  Your list of responsibilities is extensive and overwhelming.  The knowledge and skills required to create a balanced life and happy home seem almost unachievable.  The inner-workings of your household and all the little lives that rely on you is so complex that it often leaves your head swimming.  It's enough to drive anyone crazy...

But here's the good news:

You're not left to do this on your own.  In fact, you can't.  Not successfully.  We are designed to need God's help, and He is ever ready to give it.

Think of it!  The all-powerful, all-knowing God of this universe is our Father in Heaven, and He wants to be our counselor as we strive to maneuver this crazy life.  How could we go wrong?  As long as we are faithful and humble, His spirit will be with us to guide us from day to day.

I have learned through experience that Heavenly Father often works through others.  As we follow the Spirit, He can use us to bless each others lives.  We can find inspired ideas and direction through others' experiences.  I have started this blog in the hopes that I can help you and you can help me in this divine work of being a mother.
